Apple has opened a new App Store subscription channel for businesses and schools, allowing organizations to buy multiple seats through a single in-app purchase. The feature launched on October 22, 2026, according to an Apple Developer update published that day.

How Apple subscription volume purchasing works

The new workflow lets an organization purchase the number of subscription seats it needs and distribute them through Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager. That removes the need for each employee or student to complete a separate consumer purchase.

Apple said developers manage availability in App Store Connect. They can disable multiseat purchasing entirely or set different availability across the public App Store, Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager. Apple had flagged the October 22 launch in a September 16 developer notice, separating the product announcement date from the live rollout date.

Why the rollout matters for developers

Volume purchasing gives subscription app developers a more direct route into enterprise and education budgets. It also places seat assignment and lifecycle management inside tools that many organizations already use, which may reduce administrative friction for larger deployments.

The change arrives as investors continue to watch Apple’s services mix and platform economics. Fusion Market News recently examined the company’s services and margin tests, Australia’s review of Apple Pay access and fees, and new enterprise data controls in Google Workspace.

Apple has not published transaction forecasts or adoption data for the feature, so no quantitative chart is included. The near-term test is whether developers enable the option and whether organizations shift recurring app purchases into managed volume contracts.
