The mix shows why investors should separate reported growth from organic performance. Diagnostics benefited most from portfolio changes, while devices delivered the strongest comparable expansion among Abbott’s major businesses.
Other recent earnings reports also show how segment mix can shape headline growth. AT&T’s fiber additions, Dime Community Bancshares’ margin gains, and Vicor’s AI power demand provide useful comparisons.
Guidance points to steady year-end growth
Abbott maintained its full-year comparable sales growth forecast of about 6.0%. The company also narrowed adjusted diluted EPS guidance to $5.50-$5.55.
The updated range implies management expects demand to remain resilient through year-end. However, reported segment growth may continue to differ from comparable growth because of acquisitions and currency movements.
Abbott reported GAAP diluted EPS of $0.53 for the quarter. Investors comparing the figures should note that adjusted EPS excludes specified items identified by the company.
The figures and guidance come from Abbott’s October 21 earnings release. The release date and the quarter’s operating period are separate: the announcement was published after the quarter ended.
