SLB earnings showed higher third-quarter revenue and cash generation, although per-share profit remained below year-earlier levels. The energy-technology company reported the results on October 23 for the quarter ended September 30, separating the release date from the operating period.
Key Insights
- SLB earnings included revenue of $9.45 billion, up 5% sequentially and 6% from the third quarter of 2025.
- Free cash flow reached $828 million, while cash flow from operations totaled $1.51 billion.
- Adjusted earnings rose 16% sequentially to $0.64 per share but remained 7% below the year-earlier quarter.
SLB earnings show sequential improvement
Reported net income attributable to SLB was $735 million, down 6% from the second quarter and 1% year over year. GAAP earnings of $0.49 per share declined 6% sequentially and 2% from a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA reached $2.07 billion, increasing 9% from the prior quarter and remaining essentially flat year over year.
The revenue increase provides a contrast with other industrial companies facing weaker demand. LKQ’s preliminary earnings update showed declining organic sales and a sharp European margin contraction, while SLB benefited from improving international activity and recent portfolio additions.
Production Systems leads segment growth
Production Systems revenue rose 6% sequentially to $4.00 billion. SLB attributed the improvement to completions, production chemicals and artificial-lift sales in the Middle East, along with stronger OneSubsea activity in Scandinavia and Angola. The segment’s pretax operating margin reached 16%, expanding 60 basis points from the previous quarter.
Year-over-year Production Systems revenue increased 15%. ChampionX’s production-chemicals and artificial-lift operations contributed $950 million during the quarter, compared with $575 million in the year-earlier period, which included only two months of those operations. Offshore activity also supported growth across Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
Cash flow strengthens the SLB earnings picture
Operating cash flow increased from $1.36 billion in the second quarter, while free cash flow rose from $716 million. The board approved a quarterly cash dividend of $0.295 per share. Cash conversion gives investors another measure of performance because earnings were affected by charges, credits and integration activity.
SLB also highlighted the proposed acquisition of thermal-management company Kelvion for approximately $3.4 billion in cash and the assumption of about $700 million of debt. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. The move expands SLB’s exposure to data-center cooling, connecting the traditional energy-services portfolio with rising infrastructure demand.
Investors should watch whether international activity and ChampionX contributions continue to offset year-over-year pressure on adjusted earnings. Related corporate reports include Gevo’s carbon-revenue outlook and Comcast’s latest quarterly results, which likewise show how business mix can reshape margins and cash generation.
