Kodiak AI said its long-haul autonomy-readiness measure reached 99% as the company prepares to launch driverless highway service by the end of 2026. The October 30 update places its Interstate 45 deployment between Dallas and Houston in the final validation stage.

The company’s announcement is a progress report rather than confirmation that commercial service has started. Kodiak still needs to complete its highway safety case before operating without a driver on the route.

Kodiak AI Readiness Reaches 99%

Kodiak’s Autonomy Readiness Measure tracks the share of claims and supporting evidence in its safety case that are materially complete. The measure increased from 84% in February to 86% in April, 91% in July, 93% in August and 96% in September.

The latest 99% reading reflects testing, engineering verification and validation work for the Kodiak Driver system. Management said the remaining milestones have been identified and scheduled.

The company used its BreakPoint simulation tool to search for difficult edge cases. Those results feed into a probabilistic risk assessment designed to quantify behavioral risk in the autonomy system.

I-45 Launch Plans Move Into Final Stage

Kodiak plans to run the initial service on a 219-mile route along Interstate 45. IKEA is the shipper launch partner, while the company expects the safety case to support repeatable highway operations for commercial customers.

The planned launch follows Kodiak’s driverless industrial deployment in the Permian Basin. As of June 30, 2026, customers operated 35 Kodiak-equipped trucks there without humans in the cab.

The milestone adds another commercial test for physical AI. Fusion Market News recently covered Mobileye’s higher 2026 outlook, Intel’s data-center growth and Amazon’s accelerating AWS sales.

What the 99% Measure Does and Does Not Show

The readiness measure is an internal completion metric, not an independent safety rating. A 99% reading means Kodiak considers almost all required claims and evidence materially complete, but it does not guarantee a launch date or future operating performance.

Commercial deployment also depends on the remaining verification work, operating procedures and partner readiness. Technology faults, supply constraints or regulatory changes could still delay the timetable.

Kodiak disclosed those limits in its official October 30 announcement. Investors and customers will next watch whether the safety case closes and whether the I-45 service begins before year-end.
