Kroger growth targets now call for faster earnings expansion through 2029 as the grocer emphasizes digital sales, retail media and artificial intelligence. The company also reaffirmed its existing 2026 guidance.

Key Insights

  • Kroger growth targets include 7%–11% annual adjusted net EPS growth through 2029.
  • Adjusted EBITDA is expected to grow 3%–6% annually from fiscal 2027 through 2029.
  • The framework excludes Kroger’s pending Giant Eagle acquisition.

Kroger growth targets focus on earnings

Kroger introduced a long-term framework targeting approximately 3% comparable-sales growth in 2029, excluding fuel and pharmacy. It also expects 3%–6% adjusted EBITDA compound annual growth and 7%–11% adjusted net earnings-per-share growth from fiscal 2027 through 2029.

The EPS target replaces Kroger’s previous 8%–11% total shareholder return goal, which included dividend yield. Management said the new measure gives investors a clearer view of earnings growth alone.

Kroger long-term financial targets
2029 comparable sales: about 3%
FY2027–2029 adjusted EBITDA CAGR: 3%–6%
FY2027–2029 adjusted net EPS CAGR: 7%–11%

Digital sales and retail media drive the strategy

Kroger plans to expand e-commerce sales and retail media revenue while increasing penetration of its private-label brands and Boost membership. Technology and AI are expected to support direct sourcing, purchasing discipline and simpler operating processes.

The strategy remains self-funded, with savings intended to support customer value and higher-return investments. Capital allocation continues to prioritize financial strength, dividends and surplus-capital share repurchases.

Execution risks remain outside the targets

The framework excludes the pending Giant Eagle acquisition and relies on forward-looking non-GAAP measures. Kroger said labor costs, consumer spending, competition, inflation, pharmacy reimbursement and technology risks could affect results.

The plan adds another consumer-sector signal alongside GM’s new buyback, Equifax’s revenue growth and Hasbro’s gaming performance. Investors should track whether digital and cost-saving initiatives translate into the stated margin and EPS ranges.
