The Rosalind Academic Plan gives eligible U.S. university laboratories sponsored access to OpenAI’s specialized life-sciences model. OpenAI announced the program on October 15, 2026, with access subject to an application and trusted-access review.

Rosalind Academic Plan targets university laboratories

OpenAI said principal investigators and laboratory leads can apply on behalf of U.S. university labs without an existing Enterprise agreement. Labs at universities with an Enterprise agreement must request access through that institution’s existing process.

The plan includes commercially available frontier OpenAI models within usage limits. GPT‑Rosalind access is separate and requires approval, while verified lab leaders manage named members and permissions. The company said research data is not used to train its models by default.

According to OpenAI’s October 15 announcement, the specialized model combines frontier reasoning with a workbench for scientific tools. Named use cases include drug and protein design, antimicrobial resistance, genomics and wet-lab support.

The program expands AI research access but does not remove institutional oversight or scientific validation. It follows broader efforts to apply AI to complex reviews, including Google’s Deep Review research tool and Microsoft’s work on faster AI inference.
