Visa Direct Stablecoin Prefunding Goes Live
Visa announced on October 15, 2026, that its stablecoin-enabled prefunding capability had entered commercial production. Inyo Global became the first processor to offer the service to eligible Visa Direct clients and partners.
Businesses using Inyo can prefund cross-border payouts with USDC in near real time instead of relying only on conventional banking windows. The service builds on Visa Direct pilots launched in 2025. It adds another production use case alongside regulated stablecoin infrastructure such as Ripple’s RLUSD operations.
How USDC Prefunding Changes Payment Flows
Prefunding means a payment provider deposits money before processing customer payouts. Visa’s model lets eligible businesses supply that liquidity with USDC through Inyo’s existing application interfaces.
| Feature | Production rollout |
|---|---|
| Stablecoin used | USDC |
| First enabler | Inyo Global |
| Purpose | Prefund cross-border Visa Direct payouts |
| Geographic availability | Subject to eligibility and local availability |
The stablecoin funds the provider’s payment position. Visa did not say that every final recipient receives USDC. That distinction separates the service from tokenized settlement experiments such as Project Agorá.
What Payment Businesses Should Check
Eligible firms may gain more flexible funding outside standard bank hours, but they still face compliance, liquidity and stablecoin-counterparty requirements. Visa says availability varies by geography and client eligibility.
Businesses should compare conversion costs, settlement timing and operational controls with traditional prefunding. They should also confirm whether their jurisdiction treats stablecoin funding differently from customer-facing payments. Tokenized assets can expand distribution, as shown by the XGZ gold token’s cross-chain plan, while leaving reserve and redemption risks intact.
