The Facebook AI algorithm gained new controls that let users describe what they want to see in Feed and Reels. Meta announced the rollout on October 13, 2026, saying its recommendation systems can respond to natural-language feedback within the same session.
Facebook AI Algorithm Adds Direct Topic Controls
Meta said users can open “Your algorithm” from the three-dot menu on Facebook posts. The tool provides a dedicated area for adding and managing topics that influence recommendations across Feed and Reels.
The company also expanded its “Interested” and “Not interested” options. Follow-up prompts can collect written explanations, allowing users to state why they want more or less of a subject rather than relying only on clicks.
How the Facebook AI Algorithm Uses Natural Language
Meta’s announcement said large language models interpret interests, context and intent in free-form text. The recommendation system combines that text with existing engagement signals and updates results in real time.
The change shifts some recommendation control from inferred behavior toward explicit instructions. It also extends the wider use of conversational AI seen in products such as Google Gemini 4 Argon, although Meta’s feature is focused on content ranking rather than a general assistant.
What Users and Investors Should Watch
Meta’s ranking documentation explains that Facebook recommendations draw on numerous behavioral signals. The new text controls add another signal, but the company did not disclose how strongly user instructions will outweigh prior engagement data.
Ad relevance, session length and user trust will determine the business impact. The rollout also follows Meta’s role in a West Africa scam takedown and comes as market participants increasingly receive listing information through channels such as Coinbase’s dedicated X account.
