Circle Gateway expanded beyond USDC on October 23 by adding unified balances for cirBTC and EURC. The update gives developers crosschain access to Circle’s bitcoin- and euro-denominated assets without requiring separate pools on every supported network.

Circle Gateway unified cirBTC and EURC blockchain balances

Key Insights

  • Circle Gateway now supports separate unified balances for cirBTC, EURC and USDC across eligible blockchain routes.
  • Circle says finalized deposits can become available across supported chains in under 500 milliseconds, although timing is not guaranteed.
  • Gateway has processed more than $10 billion in volume, while the expansion also enables gas-free high-frequency micropayments in cirBTC and EURC.

Circle Gateway expands its asset range

The service added cirBTC support on Arc and Ethereum. EURC support covers Arc, Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, Solana and World Chain. Each asset retains its own unified balance, allowing a business to deploy liquidity on an eligible destination chain after its original deposit is finalized.

Circle said the structure reduces the need to forecast demand and pre-position inventory across multiple networks. A payment provider serving Base and Solana, for example, can draw from one EURC balance instead of funding separate chain-specific pools. The product approach arrives as crypto companies face closer operational scrutiny, illustrated by the recent Coinbase Ireland safeguarding penalty.

Unified balances target fragmented liquidity

Circle issues cirBTC and EURC, allowing Gateway to mint the assets natively on supported destination chains. The company said users therefore do not need a separate liquidity provider or an additional wrapped token to reach those networks. Circle describes cirBTC as a bitcoin-backed asset, while EURC is denominated in euros.

The launch extends the same contracts, application-programming interfaces and software kit already used for USDC. Existing USDC request and response behavior remains unchanged. Circle disclosed that Gateway fees for cirBTC and EURC are waived on Arc at launch; elsewhere, the stated fee is one basis point, versus 0.5 basis points for USDC.

Circle Gateway adds micropayment support

Gateway’s nanopayment system now supports cirBTC and EURC where the underlying asset is available. It aggregates payments offchain and settles them in batches onchain, removing a separate gas charge from each small payment. The final batch settlement still incurs blockchain fees.

Circle positioned the feature for pay-per-use services, digital wallets and autonomous applications purchasing data, computing capacity or API access. That use case overlaps with the infrastructure demands described in OpenAI’s recent storage update, although Circle’s software remains non-custodial and distinct from an AI platform.

Execution times, routes and fees can vary with network conditions. Circle also said its software has not been reviewed or approved by the New York Department of Financial Services, and developers remain responsible for licensing and compliance. Those qualifications matter as the SEC’s 2027 examination priorities increase attention on tokenization and emerging financial technology.
