Ethereum developers have scheduled the Glamsterdam network upgrade for the Hoodi testnet on Oct. 26, 2026, at 17:42:48 UTC. The Ethereum Foundation published the testnet announcement on Oct. 16, separating the event date from the source date and making clear that the mainnet activation date remains undecided.
Ethereum Glamsterdam upgrade moves to Hoodi
The Ethereum Foundation’s official announcement says node operators must update both their execution-layer and consensus-layer clients before the activation. The published releases include Geth 1.17.0, Nethermind 1.35.6, Besu 26.10.0, Erigon 3.3.6 and Reth 1.10.0 for the execution layer, alongside updated consensus clients.
Hoodi is Ethereum’s long-lived testing network for protocol upgrades. A successful activation would give client teams and infrastructure providers a broader environment to identify compatibility or performance issues before any mainnet decision. The sequencing resembles other staged infrastructure work, where testing comes before production deployment, including recent coverage of Solana’s geo-aware leader proposal.
What changes in the Hoodi test
The headline protocol change is EIP-7732, known as enshrined proposer-builder separation, or ePBS. It moves more of the block-building relationship into Ethereum’s consensus rules. EIP-7928 introduces block-level access lists, while a group of repricing proposals changes how the network charges for certain operations.
The test also lifts Hoodi’s gas limit to 200 million. That figure applies to the testnet configuration and should not be read as a confirmed mainnet setting. The upgrade therefore gives developers a controlled way to observe capacity, client behavior and resource use under the new rules.
Mainnet timing remains undecided
The Foundation explicitly said the Glamsterdam mainnet date is still to be determined. Investors and operators should watch the Hoodi activation, subsequent client releases and any mainnet announcement rather than treating the test date as a production deadline.
The distinction matters as infrastructure changes become a larger part of digital-asset analysis. Fusion Market News has also examined wafer-scale AI infrastructure and Google’s Deep Review launch, where staged rollouts similarly shape adoption and operational risk.
