Uniswap VolatilePair Hook is live on Ethereum mainnet with an ETH/USDC pool that recalculates separate buy and sell fees on every swap. Uniswap Labs announced the release on October 14 after volatile pairs generated more than $500 billion in protocol volume during 2026.

Uniswap VolatilePair Hook changes swap fees

According to Uniswap Labs, static-fee pools can quote an outdated price after rapid moves elsewhere. Arbitrage traders can capture that gap before the pool adjusts, leaving liquidity providers exposed to the price movement.

VolatilePair Hook uses recent price changes to set different fees for each trade direction. When the pool price rises, buying ETH becomes more expensive and selling becomes cheaper. The relationship reverses when the pool price falls.

How the dynamic ETH/USDC model works

The hook recalculates fees on each swap and adds a temporary charge when a trade pushes the pool back after a large move. Uniswap said the design seeks to retain more value for liquidity providers while maintaining a competitive spread for traders.

The mechanism extends Uniswap v4’s customizable hook model. Fusion Market News has covered related settlement infrastructure through the Ripple-DriveWealth RLUSD partnership and the BNY-Citadel tokenized Treasury repo.

What liquidity providers should watch

Dynamic fees may reduce losses from sudden repricing, but they do not remove impermanent loss, smart-contract risk or market volatility. Liquidity providers should compare realized fee income, execution quality and pool depth before moving capital.

Uniswap said its StablePair pools generated $3.1 billion in volume during their first four weeks. That figure provides product context, not a forecast for ETH/USDC. The broader Qivalis euro stablecoin authorization also shows how new settlement assets may expand the pairs available to decentralized markets.
