Gentex reported third-quarter net sales of $647.7 million, down from $655.2 million a year earlier, as customer issues and delayed vehicle launches left revenue about $35 million below its initial forecast. The October 23 results also narrowed the company’s 2026 sales and margin outlook while keeping its 2027 revenue target intact.

Sales miss weighs on quarterly profit

Gentex said consolidated revenue was roughly flat year over year but fell short of the forecast it set at the start of the quarter. Automotive sales declined to $552.5 million from $573.7 million, reflecting pressure in China and the Volkswagen program loss.

North American automotive revenue still grew about 3% despite a 5% decline in regional light-vehicle production. In Europe, revenue excluding the Volkswagen loss rose 13%, which the company attributed to product mix and higher electronic content per vehicle.

Gross margin narrowed to 33.4% from 34.4% as higher precious-metal costs, weaker mix and lower operating leverage offset cost controls. GAAP operating income declined to $115.1 million from $122.3 million, while net income fell to $90.6 million from $101.0 million. Adjusted diluted earnings were $0.47, unchanged from the comparable adjusted result.

Diversification provides a counterweight

Premium Audio sales increased 27% to $54.7 million. Other Products revenue rose 5% to $40.5 million, led by aerospace and fire-protection growth. Together, non-automotive activities represented 15% of total revenue, up from about 12% a year earlier.

The shift matters as auto suppliers manage uneven regional production. It complements Fusion Market News coverage of LKQ’s Europe revenue pressure and the stronger demand picture in Comfort Systems’ backlog. Investors can also compare Gentex’s outlook reset with the raised guidance in American Express earnings.

2026 guidance narrows, 2027 target holds

Gentex reduced its 2026 consolidated revenue forecast to approximately $2.65 billion from a prior range of $2.65 billion to $2.75 billion. It cut its gross-margin range to 34.0%–34.5% from 34.5%–35.5%, citing an estimated $10 million to $15 million of incremental fourth-quarter costs whose recoveries are not expected until the first half of 2027.

The company lowered projected 2026 operating expenses and capital spending while maintaining a 2027 revenue outlook of $2.80 billion to $2.90 billion. That target assumes light-vehicle production in Gentex’s primary markets declines about 1% next year. Management is counting on new technology, higher content per vehicle and a broader customer base to outgrow the market.

Gentex repurchased 5.7 million shares for $132.6 million during the quarter and announced its first printed-circuit-board assembly contract, with production expected to begin in 2029. Those initiatives offer longer-term support, but the near-term earnings picture remains tied to launch timing, commodity costs and reimbursement negotiations with customers.
